June Highlight: Alicia Wright, tackling climate change!

  • Alicia Wright is an 11th grader from Georgia who was one of the recent National Stem Challenge finalists!

  • She is interested in climate change and the global carbon footprint, and learned that a significant amount of CO2 emissions come from construction materials.

  • To address this, her invention is a biodegradable construction material made with mycelium, a type of fungus!

  • For Alicia, one of the highlights of the STEM challenge was how it felt "very encouraging to see people with my skin color and gender presenting with me,”
